Preparation is everything!

In the preseason, as a coach, you only have a few weeks to prepare your athletes for the competition phase, regardless of the state of the athletes after the break. For this reason, this phase is often called the rebuilding period. Thus, the trainer should enable the players in this time segment to be prepared for competitions throughout the season and to be able to contest them with high performance.

 

Since many factors are essential for a high performance of the athlete in team sports, be it strength, power, repeated-sprint ability, endurance, speed, acceleration and deceleration or sport-specific skills, to name just a few, you will hardly be able to achieve significant results without an optimal training strategy. But how do top coaches plan the preseason to be able to master these challenges? Which aspects do they particularly value here? And does science give us indicators to watch out for?
